The U.S. continues to be the loner in rejecting the findings on global warming. However, insurance risk estimators live in the real world of climate disaster....
The New York Times > International > U.S. Waters Down Global Commitment to Curb Greenhouse Gases: "'There is more and more evidence building up that indicates that whatever is going on is not natural and is no longer within the realm of variability,' said Alden Meyer, policy director of the Union of Concerned Scientists. Enough research has been done, especially in the Arctic, he added, to establish that 'we are starting to see the impact of human interference' and 'a clear pattern of human-induced climate change.'"
Thoughts on the Celebration of Christ while sipping eggnog from a carton at the Walmart McDonalds – December 2004
Steel and Pipe
Vented air and tile
Blowers whisper rasping
Distant announcers bellow
Interrupted pop singers yearn to themselves.
Large people fill aisles
which could hold more of the smaller kind.
Mart Carts whine by
burdened by the larger but mobile seated
“Make it a diet rootbeer!”
Echoey under brilliant light and more brilliant marketing
Wasteland? Waning time? Freedom? “Free” market
Still, tall white men hear the murmur of the little ones,
“She basically takes half of my hour.”
“Why did she get off early?” says she. Who?” say they.
Indentured to the minute hand.
More large people grazing and thoughtful people…
The flower-scented soap brick or the tub of margarine?
It really is quite important -- as important as life…
“God’s in it all!” say they.
“God bless America!”
“Who?” say they …oh yeah… our Troops.
JustLikeDennis.comNow that elections are behind us, I will post a bit. The election was draining, discouraging, and dismal.
The next few posts I will list a poem or two that I wrote as I thought about the the nature of the religious "right" which has become so influential in the political arena.
Following is a reflection on the biblical description of the beast and dragon in the Book of Revelation.
Revelation 13The dragon noble, righteous true
serves the beast that enamors you.
The beast golden global rich from its cup you sip;
The dragon ratifies it through a theology of stewardship.
The beast keeps you working collecting things filling barns;
The dragon justifies weaving homiletic yarns.
Toward the beast we swear our allegiance;
free market, democracy economic alliance.
Each Sabbath we listen intently to the roar
of the beauty, righteousness and wealth of the dragon whore.
Deception is upon us, like a thief in the night;
The lonely cry of the prophet, no, no there's no prophet in sight.
